"With over 30 years of hands-on experience in the flooring industry and a commitment to consumer advocacy since 1998, my goal is to help homeowners choose wisely, avoid scams and have a successful, stress-free carpet buying experience." Alan Fletcher

I no longer sell or install carpet, but I enjoy recommending the best locally-owned carpet and flooring stores to my readers. Over the past 15 years during my ongoing search for the best and most reputable carpet / flooring stores, I have found on average, that maybe 1 out of 10 flooring retailers are able to pass my requirements for inclusion in my Preferred Carpet Dealer Directory.

There are plenty of flooring retailers that use sneaky sales tactics to cheat and deceive unsuspecting homeowners. The most common sales trick used lately is to advertise unbelievable offers that sound "too good to be true" hoping to attract new customers, who won't read their fine print. "Buy one room of carpet and get three rooms of carpet for free!" Does this sound familiar? Don't fall for it!

Some retailers use strong-arm sales tactics and try to "close the deal" before homeowners have a chance to comparison shop at other local stores. Don't let pushy salespeople force you to buy before you are ready! After viewing samples and listening to their sales pitch while in your home, kindly ask them to leave if you ever feel pressured or uncomfortable. Just say thank you for coming, but I am not going to make any decision today.

Some flooring salespeople intentionally over-measure your material needs so you end up paying way more than necessary. Just by adding a few extra feet of carpet increases the price you pay by hundreds! It's hard to know if you have been measured inaccurately. That's why its so important to get more than just one bid and measure. And the list of common carpet scams goes on and on.

So, after four decades of flooring sales and installation experience, I am uniquely qualified to distinguish between the honest & reputable stores from the unscrupulous stores. This helps me to never recommend any retailers who are dishonest or use sneaky or underhanded sales tactics.

Why Do You Only Recommend Local Stores?

My recommended carpet & flooring stores have built strong reputations through many years of dedicated service to homeowners. They are eager to share their vast product knowledge and provide outstanding customer service before, during and after your purchase. Should you encounter any issues with their products or installation services, they will do whatever it takes to resolve your concerns, ensuring your complete satisfaction.

New carpet & flooring is a major expense and homeowners deserve a fair & square deal and qualified installation. These are just a few reasons why I only recommend a select number of well-established carpet and flooring retailers.

Over the past 30 years, large corporations like Lowe’s and Home Depot have opened thousands of locations nationwide and flooded the carpet & flooring market with TV advertising. Many local carpet stores have been unable to compete with their deep pockets and relentless corporate advertising campaigns, leading to the closure of many flooring stores. This has made it increasingly difficult for homeowners to find reputable stores with a long-standing presence, experienced staff, and providing valuable in-depth knowledge of carpet and flooring products.

Homeowners need to make sure to select the Right Grade of Carpet that will meet their needs and goals, get honest measuring, pay a fair & square price and not become the victim of common Carpet Scams!

Consumers should always get several free in-home estimates / measures and only buy from a reputable carpet or flooring retailer.
